The following qusetions are meant to serve as a guide for constructing your artist statement about your theme works. Not all questions need to be answered or may necessarily even be applicable to you and your work. After you have answered as many as you can, you should be able to start construction an artist statement.
1 what is/are your Medium(s)?
2 Why have you chosen this/these mediums and or formats?
3 Is there anything unusual about your materials or formats?
4 do you combine media?
5 what process do you use in making your work?
6 what images or forms appear often in your work? What do you keep making repeatedly?
7 Does your work relate to how or where you live and if so how?
8 How does your work relate or contrast to your cultural background?
9 Is your work narative?
10 Who are what influenced your work?
11 What inspires you?
12 Why do you create?
13 What do you want to say?
14 How do the materials used relate to the content, meanings and or themes of your work?
15 Are there symbols and images in your work? What do they mean?
16 Are there any particular ART and DESIGN elements that are especially important to your work?
17 Does emotional, social and /or political content play a part in your work?
18 How do you want the viewer to respond to your work?
19 What themes or issues are important to your work?
20 Is there anything abour your work that you feel you need to explain in words - verbally or in writing - so a viewer can better understand your work?
Tips for composing -
avoid using jargon, cliches, and similies (words like vibe, eye-catching, or it looks like the ocean...)
avoid modifiers - really, very, especially, or words like however
Be direct and concrete
No poetic flights of fancy
