For this assignment, please first look at the history of Dreamtime paintings as practiced in Australia by the Aborigine people.
Consider that art is sometimes not far from conjuring magic! The artist is a Shaman or Wizard that can transport the viewer in time and space!
the main idea is to create an image about an experience with symbols and dots - or in this case - tiny lines - of color. It does not need to be, and probably shouldn't be, actually representative of particular objects as they appear to the eye - but rather the shapes that make up the image should represent the essence, feeling, or attributes of the objects. The path of the creation of the image should represent the path of the experience.
To make one of these images one needs to focus on the feelings of the experience and work in a meditative state of mind.
below are three states of a painting about the experience of fishing in the Snoqualmie on a sunny day.
Followed by examples of student's dreamtime images.
It is important to work slowly and with concentration to recall the experience so that others will be able to feel what you are feeling.
I am still cognizant that I probably should work light to dark and use compliments for a brighter image. I cannot unlearn my art education, however, it is my hope that since I am focused on the experience and not the view when I make the image that the image will contain my focus and that it can be shared by an observer.
