first look at paint and the color wheel - there are tints and shades - mixing black and white to hues, but there are also ways to change color by mixing in either compliments or analogous colors.
notice also that paint can be opaque and transparent.
The nice thing about tempera paint is you can lighten a color by making it transparent or adding white. While it's challenging, you can paint light over dark.
it is still best, however, to paint light to dark.
Now - your assignment -
On small white paper do a painting of these apples with tempera paint. Make sure your paint is opaque enough not to curl the paper.
Start with mostly yellows - find the undertone of all the apples.
Look at the tutorial here Click the link - note please paint a painting of the apples in picture below. DO NOT reproduce the image in the tutorial. :)
Day one will be the general colors, day two the details - make sure you leave some paper white! make sure you put a boarder around your picture. :)
Note - Do NOT squish your brush - don't use it like a pencil or pen - pushing harder WILL NOT make more paint come out - it will just ruin the brush! When using a brush, first load it with paint from the paint source, next lay the paint on the paper with light pressure - as the paint flows out of the brush stop - GET MORE paint.
Cleaning your brush - one, rinse the brush under the faucet, next - put some soap in your hand and gently shampoo the brush - remember it's like your hair - next rinse and re shape the brush.
always lay it flat or put it in a container head up so as not to squish the bristles.
